What is IMS
Infrastructure Management Services (IMS), talks of managing and maintaining the entire set of Hardware and Networking infrastructure in a large organization. This infra ranges from PCs to Laptops to Servers to Routers, databases and much much more. Not only that, IMS also deals with keeping all of this equipment efficiently connected to each other 24/7, days. With more than 200 Billion mobile phones, 15 Million PCs, 0.5 Million Servers, 2 million Printers , a world wide web (www) and all of the above wanting to talk to each other :
The IMS opportunity is not just big, it is explosive!! IMS and Career Prospects
Infrastructure management appeared to be the next growth frontier for most training majors. The IMS industry currently accounts for US$524 billion, nearly a quarter of the US$2.3 trillion overall IT spending and is moving towards a remote delivery model where services are increasingly delivered by vendors from low-cost locations. With the Nasscom-McKinsey report forecasting that India is strongly positioned to capture up to $15 bn of the global remote infrastructure management market over the next four years, the demand for experienced workforce with highly specialized skill-sets is bound to go up.
According to the study, India accounts for $3-4 bn of the total $6-7 bn worth of services off-shored. It adds that the RIM industry in India has grown from $1 in 2005 to $3.6 bn in 2008, at a compounded annual growth rate of more than 50%, higher than the overall industry average of 20-30%. The study also reveals that $26-28 bn of the total opportunity is likely to be realized by 2013, and India can position itself to acquire a disproportionate share, i.e., $14-15 bn, creating 325,000-375,000 additional jobs in the process.
The increasing need for network professionals is about to have a rippling effect on the IT training segment. Looking to the future, IDC’s research showed the skill areas deemed to be of most importance for organizations when considering the networking infrastructures are:
• Networking Security Skills
• Wireless networking skills
• Datacenter and cross technology skills
While there are many avenues to pick up Hardware and Networking skills from, but with the industry requiring skills on IMS and remote Infrastructure Management and that too with International Skills, the challenge for any IMS career aspirant becomes big. The ask therefore is for an institute which can deliver Infrastructure Management Skills and expose students to the latest technologies being used by the industry. All of this with International Certificates. At NIIT, we not only provide advanced training and education to our students, but ensure that they are securely placed with companies of good repute and stature. In fact, NIIT has been rated as the first choice of employers for recruitment by Dataquest. Our collaboration with companies across sectors help our students get placed in various industries, be it Information Technology, Manufacturing, Media, Banking and Financial Services and Telecom.
